Spirit Led Justice Alliance *Action Alert* 2/6/20
As the short Oregon State legislation launches we will be bringing you word of advocacy you can do on a number of progressive bills between now and March 8. Every week we will remind you of the following links so you can easily find your House and Senate representatives.
This week we invite you to partner with PCUN on a farmworker bill. We also invite you to plan on a day of solidarity on Sunday, February 23 with IMIrJ, Tsuru for Solidarity, La Resistencia, Densho, and Seattle JACL at the Tacoma WA immigrant prison.
The weather might be cold, but our fire for justice burns strong!

Lift a Moral Voice to Pass the FarmworkerHealth Protection Bill!
This legislative session, Oregon has the opportunity to protect the health of our children, and our farmworkers by addressing the use of chlorpyrifos. Chlorpyrifos is a neurotoxic pesticide proven to cause brain damage in children and pregnant women. Prenatal exposures to chlorpyrifos are associated with lower birth weight, reduced IQ, loss of working memory, attention disorders, and delayed motor development. PCUN has filed HB 4109, a bill that proposes a phase-out on the use of chlopryrifos in our state in order to protect the health of our communities. Join our campaign and lobby days by signing up. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up!

From original Tsuru’s FB event page:
The Day of Remembrance, Day of Action at NWDC commemorates the 78th anniversary of the Executive Order that incarcerated 126,000 citizens and immigrants of Japanese descent during WWII. Today, thousands of immigrants and refugees are confined in similar concentration camps. They are subjected to inhumane conditions, family separations, threats of deportation, and countless indignities.
The Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, WA is one of the largest immigration prisons in the country, with a capacity to hold up to 1575 immigrants per day. Up to 200 people, many of whom are seeking asylum, are transferred from the US-Mexico border to the NWDC each month. Other people held at the NWDC have lived in the US for years, in some cases for the majority of their lives. While some are deported after only weeks, some are held for months and even years awaiting the outcomes of their deportation cases. Few legal protections apply to these civil detainees, and those held are not entitled to an attorney at government expense; approximately 90% of them move forward in their cases unrepresented.
